Despite less than favorable weather forecasts for the campout dates, several of us headed to Mt. Angel for their annual Oktoberfest, held each year the third weekend of September. The lure of German food, beer and festivities can outweigh a damp and gloomy climate anytime — Especially for Oregonians.
Due to the abundance of food available in town, the usual Friday night potluck was cancelled. However, in order to create a shelter to accommodate our social hour that evening, Carol turned her rig around to face in the opposite direction in the space adjacent to Frances. Then, with assistance from Richard and others, both awnings were extended. June supplied us with a huge plastic tarp; Most of the campers pitched in to bungee that to the overlapping awning arms, adding a wind-break. Once mats and rugs were put down and chairs brought in our snug space was secured.
